Biden ends bid for second term in White House, endorses Kamala Harris
President Biden has decided to drop out of the 2024 race, announcing on X that he made the decision "in the best interest of my party and the country." Biden had come under increased pressure to drop out of the race over the last few days.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the contest for the White House is a "two-man race" and that only he can beat Donald Trump after President Biden's shocking withdrawal from a second-term bid.
Speaking Sunday at a hastily called press conference from his family's storied compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, Kennedy praised Biden while simultaneously blaming Democratic Party leaders for "hiding" his mental decline.
"I want to begin by commending President Biden for a career in public service: a long, long career and representing and serving our country and for his handling of the many difficulties and challenges, personal challenges and tragedies that he suffered during his life with so much admirable conduct and the empathy that he derives from those experiences," Kennedy said.
Kennedy, who left the party his family once ruled after it blocked his bid to challenge Biden in primaries, said the Democratic National Committee created a mess by covering for Biden.
"The reaction of the DNC to that obvious condition was to hide it from the American public and to use their power over the Democratic Party nomination process to make sure that nobody could compete with President Biden in a way that would expose his deficiencies," Kennedy argued.
Kennedy continued his campaign as an independent, and he has reached double-digits in some polls on a platform that decries "corporate capture," the affordability crisis, and "forever wars," according to his campaign website.
Kennedy also called out former President Trump as well as Vice President Harris, who appears poised to head the Democrat ticket.
"President Trump has a connection to the American people, a populist connection," said Kennedy. "But in many ways, it's the same fraudulent connection that we saw with the DNC over the past year, concealing a real purpose of their objective, which was to give us a president that … represents corporate interests rather than the interests of the American public."
"If the Democrats do what I suspect they're going to do, which is to anoint Kamala Harris, a vice president who is monumentally unpopular within her own party … they're doing it because it's the easiest way to hold on to the money," Kennedy said.

The Democratic National Committee's Rules Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday to create a process for selecting a new presidential nominee to replace President Biden, according to Bloomberg.
Biden announced Sunday afternoon that he is dropping his re-election campaign.
Later on Sunday, Vice President Harris launched her campaign for president.
The DNC's meeting will be open to the public.
Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Penn., said President Biden called him and "graciously" thanked him for his friendship and strong support.

"Earlier this evening President Biden called me and we had a good conversation," Boyle wrote on the social media platform X. "He graciously thanked me for my friendship and strong support. Says a lot about the man that, even on this day, he's calling his friends to say thanks."
Boyle said earlier on Sunday following Biden's announcement that the president is a "patriot" who "selflessly put personal ambition aside to do what he thinks is best for our country."
"Today, and every day, both in dark passages and bright days, I am always proud to be one of Joe Biden’s biggest supporters," Boyle wrote.
The congressman said in another post that "No President in my lifetime achieved more in a single term" than Biden.
Boyle also said he supports Vice President Harris' presidential campaign.
"As I said earlier this afternoon on @KYWNewsradio I strongly support @KamalaHarris for President," he wrote on X. "She's an enormously talented and accomplished leader who will prosecute the case against Donald Trump. Now is the time for all Democrats to unite, fight, and win. #Harris2024."

Michigan Democratic Party chair Lavora Barnes said she is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign.
This comes after President Biden announced he is dropping his re-election campaign.
"I am fired up and ready to elect Vice President Harris this November as she works tirelessly to defend our democracy and defeat Donald Trump and his MAGA agenda," Barnes said in a statement.
"Kamala Harris has spent her entire career working to protect the rights and freedoms of Americans," Barnes continued. "As a prosecutor, a United States senator, and now, as the country’s first Black woman vice president, she has never backed down from a fight. In a moment where our reproductive freedom and the very basis of our democracy are on the line, Vice President Harris will lead the Democratic Party to victory this November."
Barnes said Michigan Democrats have "built world-class campaign infrastructure on the ground" and "haven't skipped a beat," adding that they have been "knocking doors and making calls, reminding voters of the threat that another Trump presidency poses."
"With a champion for Michiganders like Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket, I am confident that Michigan will once again deliver for Democrats up and down the ballot.," Barnes concluded.
A top donor to President Biden's campaign will not fundraise for Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign after Biden dropped his re-election bid on Sunday.
John Morgan told ABC News: "If Trump World could pick anybody to run against, I think they pick her."
Morgan followed up in a post on the social media platform X.
"You have to be enthusiastic or hoping for a political appointment to be asking friends for money," he wrote. "I am neither."
"It's others turn now," Morgan continued. "The donors holding the 90 million can release those funds in the morning. It's all yours. You can keep my million. And good luck."
Grassroots supporters have raised close to $50 million after Vice President Kamala Harris launched her presidential campaign, according to ActBlue, a fundraising platform for Democrat campaigns.
This comes after President Biden announced Sunday afternoon that he is dropping out of the presidential race.
As of 9 p.m., the grassroots supporters raised $46.7 million through ActBlue following Harris' campaign launch, the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle, ActBlue wrote on the social media platform X.
"Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election," the group wrote.
ActBlue is on pace to break the record for a single 24-hour period of fundraising in political history.
By comparison, former President Trump's campaign announced after his conviction in his criminal trial in New York City that they hauled in nearly $53 million through their online digital fundraising platform in the first 24 hours.
Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign is now on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, after President Biden dropped his re-election campaign.
The rapid response page is called Kamala HQ.
"Welcome to Kamala HQ," the page wrote. "This is the official rapid response page of Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign."
One of the largest labor unions in the world, the Service Employees International Union or SEIU, announced their endorsement of Kamala Harris for President via X Sunday.
Verrett's endorsement described Harris as "the candidate who can beat Donald Trump" as well as the one who can "finish the job that we started under the Biden-Harris administration."
SEIU in the statement claimed to represent working people, saying "working people are clear: Vice President Harris is the leader who has their back. SEIU is ALL IN for Kamala Harris."
Besides labor issues, the endorsement of Harris also cites her "powerful and steady voice defending our reproductive freedom" and a "humane and orderly immigration system."
The SEIU finished their endorsement of Harris by calling out former President Donald Trump and his "MAGA future."
"We certainly cannot risk a President who seeks to be a dictator from Day One and whose racist, sexist and anti-worker agenda is clearly outlined in Project 2025," Verrett claimed.
SEIU represents nearly 2 million workers in the United States and Canada.
Hours after Vice President Kamala Harris announced her intent to run for president, former President Trump's team published an ad that ridiculed her past gaffes.
Trump senior advisor Dan Scavino, Jr. posted the ad on X with the title: "Inspiring Thoughts from Kamala Harris".
The video lampoons the vice president for statements she's made in the past that critics have interpreted as bizarre or oddly-phrased.
One of the quotes from Harris was: "The significance of the passage of time, right? The significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time...there is such great significance to the passage of time."
Another Harris gaffe read: "It’s time for us to do what we have been doing, and that time is every day."
"I can imagine what will be, unburdened by what has been," is another Harris statement that the video quotes.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential bid, saying it is time for Democrats to unite and stop former President Trump.
“As Democrats, our mission remains the same: doing everything in our power to defeat Donald Trump. When President Biden picked Kamala Harris to be his Vice President he unleashed incredible excitement for a new generation of political leadership,” Hochul said in a press release. That same energy will carry us to November 5 with Vice President Harris leading our ticket.
“Kamala is a champion of justice who will fight every single day for a woman’s right to choose, for middle class families, and for the integrity of our democracy,” she added. “I am confident she will deliver for New Yorkers and am proud to stand beside her. Now it’s time for Democrats to unite and work together to stop the greatest threat to America – Donald Trump.”
Before endorsing Harris, Hochul also praised Biden as “a true statesman” and “one of the greatest champions” for working families.
“Joe Biden is an American hero, a true statesman and one of the greatest champions working families have ever known. His decision to pass the torch required great courage, patriotism, and the sort of perspective one only gains after fifty years of dedicated public service at the highest level,” Hochul said. “I extend my deepest gratitude to President Biden whose accomplishments and leadership make him one of the most effective Presidents in American history.”

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president in a social media post on Sunday.
Granholm, who was appointed by President Biden in 2021, wrote that she is "going to do everything I can to make sure that President @KamalaHarris is able to continue the incredible work of @JoeBiden."
"[C]reating more jobs than any POTUS in history; more people insured than at any time in history; most significant climate laws in history," she described.
Granholm listed more Biden administration wins, which she partially attributed to the vice president.
"[T]hese are all due to the Biden-HARRIS Administration. Let’s keep up the momentum folks!" she concluded.
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris via X Sunday. The former 2020 presidential candidate praised President Biden on the social media platform after his announcement that he will not seek re-election.
"Joe Biden has earned his place among the best and most consequential presidents in our history," said Buttigieg. "Americans are much better off because of his leadership and accomplishments. He always puts our country first, as he demonstrated today, and I know he will continue to do so for the rest of his term."
Buttigieg argued in his statement, "Kamala Harris is now the right person to take up the torch, defeat Donald Trump, and succeed Joe Biden as President."
"I have seen her extraordinary leadership firsthand, working closely with her during the 2020 campaign and then in the historically effective Biden-Harris administration," he added.
"I will do all that I can to help her win this election to lead America forward as our next President," said Buttigieg.

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said Sunday that President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race was the right thing to do and was in the best interest of the country.
“I’m a classic Republican and he’s a classic Democrat; obviously, President Biden and I usually didn’t see eye-to-eye,” Romney wrote in a press release. “I opposed many of his initiatives. But we did find common ground on infrastructure, Ukraine, the Electoral Count Act, adding religious liberty protections to the marriage bill, gun safety measures, and chip manufacturing.
“Others will judge his presidency. However, having worked with him these past few years, I respect President Biden. His decision to withdraw from the race was right and is in the best interest of the country,” the senator from Utah wrote. “Ann and I send warm personal wishes to the President and First Lady.”

The Democrat fundraising platform ActBlue announced in an X post Sunday a massive haul of contributions from 'small-dollar' donors, raising $27.5M in five hours.
"Small-dollar donors raise over $27.5 million on ActBlue in the first 5 hours of Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign," the post read. "Grassroots supporters are energized and excited to support her as the Democratic nominee."
According to FEC reporting, the Biden-Harris campaign had $91.5M 'cash-on-hand' in June 2024. Vice President Harris is poised to receive those funds after President Biden dropped out of the race Sunday afternoon.
Harris accepted Biden's endorsement Sunday via X, saying "I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination."

California Governor Gavin Newsom endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday, hours after President Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 race.
Newsom, whose name has been thrown around as a potential contender, commended Harris in a brief social media post on X, describing her as "tough, fearless, [and] tenacious."
"With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump's dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, @KamalaHarris," Newsom wrote.

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin is considering re-registering as a Democrat so he can run for president.
Fox News confirmed Manchin, who in May left the Democratic Party and registered as an Independent, said Sunday he is considering re-registering with his original party and running for president.
Manchin said he was considering the party switch and throwing his hat in the ring for President, "Even just to have the discussion of bringing the party back to center," Fox News' Bret Baier posted on X.

The prospect of Vice President Harris becoming president could mean a continuance of President Biden’s policies surrounding the southern border.
In 2018, Harris was a guest on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” when she suggested the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be eliminated, adding, “we probably need to think about starting over from scratch.”
The vice president has repeatedly expressed support to decriminalize illegal immigration, and during the primary campaign cycle in 2020, she raised her hand on stage during the MSNBC debate when moderators said to raise your hand if you support changing illegal entry to a civil offense rather than a criminal offense.
Under the Biden administration, the president assigned Harris to tackle the root causes of migration in the northern triangle countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
Also during Biden’s presidency, with Harris as his vice president, the number of illegal crossings at the southern border were the highest ever recorded in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Harris has only visited the border one time during her vice presidency, when she made a sanitized visit to El Paso, Texas, in June 2021.
Harris also pushed the false claim that horseback Border Patrol agents had “whipped” Haitian migrants in Del Rio in September 2021, saying the images reminded her of “slavery.” Neither she nor Biden have apologized to the agents for pushing the false narrative.

Republican lawmakers are calling on President Biden to resign from office immediately after he announced he will not seek re-election in November.
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in a statement, "If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough."
"If the Democrat party has deemed Joe Biden unfit to run for re-election, he's certainly unfit to control our nuclear codes," House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., said minutes after the bombshell news broke. "Biden must step down from office immediately."
House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., similarly said, "If Joe Biden can’t run for re-election, he is unable and unfit to serve as President of the United States. He must immediately resign. The Democrat Party is in absolute free fall for their blatantly corrupt and desperate attempt to cover up the fact that Joe Biden is unfit for office."
"If Joe Biden is unfit to be the Democrat nominee for president, he’s unfit to be president for the rest of his term. For the good of the country, Joe Biden should resign immediately," said Republican Study Committee Chair Kevin Hern, R-Okla.

Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to express skepticism that President Biden was truly isolating with COVID-19 after Biden announced he was dropping out of the 2024 race Sunday.
"Does anybody really believe that Crooked Joe had Covid? No, he wanted to get out ever since June 27th, the night of The Debate, where he was completely obliterated. That was the big moment in Joe Biden’s demise. That was the point in time when Joe was revealed for what he is, an incompetent man who should never have been President. Joe Biden is not fit to serve - He is destroying our Country," Trump said Sunday.
In a subsequent post, Trump called Biden the "worst president in the history of the United States" while slamming the choice to broadcast the next debate on "Fake News ABC."
"My debate with Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the history of the United States, was slated to be broadcast on Fake News ABC, the home of George Slopadopolus, sometime in September. Now that Joe has, not surprisingly, has quit the race, I think the Debate, with whomever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews, rather than very biased ABC. Thank you! DJT," Trump said.
"So, we are forced to spend time and money on fighting Crooked Joe Biden , he polls badly after having a terrible debate, and quits the race," he added later. "Now we have to start all over again. Shouldn’t the Republican Party be reimbursed for fraud in that everybody around Joe, including his doctors and the Fake News Media, knew he was not capable of running for, or being, President? Just askin’?"

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., who recently lost his re-election bid to a more moderate primary challenger, said on X, "Now that President Biden has suspended his campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris is the most qualified and best choice to lead us forward."

Hunter Biden issued a statement Sunday on his father's decision to drop out of the 2024 race.

Alex Soros, one of the five sons of billionaire George Soros, took to social media on Sunday to express his support for Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for president.
"It’s time for us all to unite around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump," Soros said on X Sunday. "She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream!"
President Biden immediately endorsed Harris after announcing that he was dropping out of the race, though questions remain on whether Democrats will unite around the vice president.

LinkedIn co-founder and Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman said Sunday he "wholeheartedly" supports Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for president, after President Biden announced he would not seek reelection.
Biden ended his bid for a second term in the White House on Sunday, dropping out of his 2024 rematch with former President Trump.
The news came after several reports that the president was losing his donors and cash was drying up.
Once the announcement was made, one of Biden’s major donors, Hoffman, turned to X to throw his support behind a new Democratic Party candidate.
"The Democrats are the party of policy, progress, and action. When presented with the choice between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, I believe in the American people to make the right decision for our country," Hoffman wrote. "The Biden-Harris administration has put this country on the right track. It’s time for us to unite. I wholeheartedly support Kamala Harris and her candidacy for President of the United States in our fight for democracy in November."

Tulsi Gabbard, former 2020 Democrat presidential candidate, posted a video to her X account Sunday after President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the role.
"Biden’s out, Kamala is in. Don’t be fooled: policies won’t change. Just like Biden wasn’t the one calling the shots, Kamala Harris won’t be either."
"She is the new figurehead for the deep state and the maidservant of Hillary Clinton, queen of the cabal of warmongers. They will continue their efforts to engulf the world in war and taking away our liberty."
Gabbard and Harris were fierce rivals during the Democrat primary debates during the 2020 race, where Gabbard famously slammed Harris' criminal justice record as attorney general and district attorney.
Sen. Peter Welch, D-VT, called for the Democratic National Committee to have a "truncated process" to pick a nominee, letting that process play out formally, according to a report from CBS News.
According to the report, Welch said he is not ready to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris and wants to see a formal process play out.
President Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday, immediately endorsing Harris to replace him at the top of the ticket.
Other Democrats have followed Biden's lead, while others have yet to make an endorsement of the vice president.

Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday after President Biden announced his intention to suspend his re-election campaign.
"One of President Biden's first decisions as the nominee was to select a running mate that he believed possessed the values and vision necessary to continue this country's pursuit toward a 'more perfect Union,'" Clyburn said of Harris in a statement.
"I echo the good judgment he demonstrated in selecting Vice President Harris to lead this nation alongside him, and I am proud to follow his lead in support of her candidacy to succeed him as the Democratic Party's 2024 nominee for President," he added.
Clyburn is credited with helping Biden clinch the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination during the South Carolina primary after he offered the then-candidate his coveted and influential endorsement.
Biden's decision to step aside came after mounting pressure from party members for him to pass the torch following a poor debate performance against former President Trump last month.
Members of President Biden's staff were reportedly blindsided by the news that the president opted to drop out of the 2024 race, with some finding out the news from the President's post on X.
“We’re all finding out by tweet,” one Democrat close to the matter said, according to a report in Politico. “None of us understand what’s happening.”
Biden opted to drop out of the race on Sunday, announcing the decision on Twitter.
A source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital that the president was still "all systems go" and "full speed ahead" on the campaign as recently as Saturday night, but then changed his mind around 1:45pm on Sunday.

Former President Barack Obama in a new statement is calling President Biden "one of America's most consequential presidents" hours after Biden announced he would not seek re-election and would endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him.
"Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me," the former president and former first lady Michelle Obama said in a lengthy statement. "Today, we’ve also been reminded — again — that he’s a patriot of the highest order."
"Sixteen years ago, when I began my search for a vice president, I knew about Joe’s remarkable career in public service. But what I came to admire even more was his character — his deep empathy and hard-earned resilience; his fundamental decency and belief that everyone counts," he said.
Obama hailed Biden's achievements in office.
"Since taking office, President Biden has displayed that character again and again. He helped end the pandemic, created millions of jobs, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, passed the first major piece of gun safety legislation in 30 years, made the biggest investment to address climate change in history, and fought to ensure the rights of working people to organize for fair wages and benefits," he said. "Internationally, he restored America’s standing in the world, revitalized NATO, and mobilized the world to stand up against Russian aggression in Ukraine. More than that, President Biden pointed us away from the four years of chaos, falsehood, and division that had characterized Donald Trump’s administration."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is accused Vice President Kamala Harris of being "complicit" in a coverup to deny that President Biden was incapable of serving as president -- hours after Biden said he would not run for re-election.
"Kamala Harris was complicit in a massive coverup to hide and deny the fact that Joe Biden was not capable of discharging the duties of the office," he said in a statement.
"She also was the the border czar during the worst border crisis in American history. Democrats are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic," he said.
Biden announced he was stepping aside on Sunday afternoon, before endorsing Harris as his replacement at the top of the Democratic ticket.
Ohio Sen. and Trump running mate JD Vance took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris on X, arguing that she has been at President Biden's side and shares ownership of his policies.
"Joe Biden has been the worst President in my lifetime and Kamala Harris has been right there with him every step of the way. Over the last four years she co-signed Biden's open border and green scam policies that drove up the cost of housing and groceries," Vance said. "She owns all of these failures, and she lied for nearly four years about Biden's mental capacity--saddling the nation with a president who can't do the job."

Vice President Kamala Harris issued a statement on Sunday thanking "selfless" President Biden for his leadership and praising him for stepping aside -- while promising to beat former President Trump in November as the Democratic nominee.
“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office,“ she said.
"It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first came to know President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states. As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad," she said. "The kind of father—and the kind of man—he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. A source very familiar tells Fox News Digital that as of last night, the message from President Biden and those around him was “all systems go” and campaign “full speed ahead.”
“And then at around 1:45pm, he notified senior team members that he had changed his mind,” the source said.
The source also told Fox News Digital that the campaign staffers denying reports of Biden suspending his campaign over the last several days were all going off of “good information” and what they had been told at the time.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison responded to President Biden's decision to end his re-election campaign on Sunday, but did not mention the president's endorsement of Kamala Harris.
"The work that we must do now, while unprecedented, is clear," he said in a statement. "In the coming days, the Party will undertake a transparent and orderly process to move forward as a united Democratic Party with a candidate who can defeat Donald Trump in November. This process will be governed by established rules and procedures of the Party. Our delegates are prepared to take seriously their responsibility in swiftly delivering a candidate to the American people."
“In short order, the American people will hear from the Democratic Party on next steps and the path forward for the nomination process," Harrison said.
Biden endorsed Harris in a separate post on X after his announcement, writing, "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year."
However, only a handful of Democrats have followed suit in supporting Harris.
Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D. said that President Biden should resign from the presidency if he dropped out of the race because he is "incapable of doing the job."
"If he's ending his campaign because he cannot convince enough people he should be re-elected, he deserves credit for having a lucid moment," Cramer told Fox News Digital. "He and every liberal apologist has been caught in their attempted con, and his presidency will be forever remembered as a miserable failure."
The comments come after President Biden announced on X Sunday that he was dropping out of the 2024 race. The announcement resulted in some calling on the president to resign as well, including Ohio Senator and Trump running mate JD Vance, who questioned how Biden can "justify remaining president."
"Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief," Vance said on X. "There is no middle ground."

Former President Bill Clinton and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton both endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday afternoon.
In a statement published around an hour after Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 race, the Clintons said that the sitting president has "lifted America out of an unprecedented pandemic, created millions of new jobs, rebuilt a battered economy, strengthened our democracy, and restored our standing in the world."
"By any measure, he has advanced our founders charge to build a more perfect union and his own stated goal of restoring the soul of our nation," the press release read. "We join millions of Americans in thanking President Biden for all he has accomplished, standing up for America time and again, with his North Star always being what's best for the country."
The couple added that they were "honored" to join Biden in endorsing Harris, and vowed they will do "whatever we can to support her."
"We've lived through many ups and downs, but nothing has made us more worried for our country than the threat posed by a second Trump term," the statement added. "He has promised to be a dictator on day one, and the recent ruling by his servile Supreme Court will only embolden him to further shred the Constitution."
"Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight with everything we've got to elect her. America's future depends on it."
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., took to X to praise President Biden after the president announced he will drop out of the 2024 race.
"Joe Biden has served our country with honor and dignity.," sanders said on X. "As the first president to ever walk on a picket line with striking workers, he has been the most pro-working class president in modern American history. Thank you, Mr. President, for all you’ve done."
Sanders ran against Biden for the Democratic nomination in 2020, but suspended his campaign and eventually endorsed Biden.

Biden made the announcement on Sunday afternoon, with just 183 days left in his term, and 29 days before the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19, 2024.
On March 31, 1968, then-President Lyndon B. Johnson announced he would not seek election with 295 days left in his term, and 148 days until the party convention.

Vice President Kamala Harris has a lower favorability rating that former President Donald Trump, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.
Trump recorded his highest favorability rating in the history of the poll at 40%, up from the low to mid 30% range the former president typically hovered in the poll.
Harris, who isn't as well-known as Trump but was just endorsed by President Biden after the president made the decision to drop out of the 2024 race, came in with a lower favorability that Trump, coming in at 35%.
The poll, which was taken before Biden announced he was dropping out of the race, found the president's favorability rating come in a tick below Harris at 32%.
A Republican senator says that, in the wake of Biden's announcement he is stepping down as the Democratic nominee, he should not be given access to the nuclear codes.
"If Joe Biden is unable to serve another term, then he must resign right now. If he's unfit to campaign, he should not have the nuclear codes - it's that simple," Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, said.

He has been one of Biden's most high-profile surrogates on the campaign trail, continuing to promote Biden even after his poor debate performance last month.
President Biden's decision to end his 2024 White House bid came less than 24 hours after he declared in a social media post that he would "win" the "most important" presidential election.
In a post to X Saturday evening, Biden wrote, "It’s the most important election of our lifetimes."

Former President Donald Trump reacted to President Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 race on Sunday, vowing to "remedy the damage" done during the Biden administration.
"Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was!" Trump said in a Truth Social post. "He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement."
The former president also accused Biden of being incompetent and criticized American media in his post.
"All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t - And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists," Trump added.
"We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
President Biden's former White House chief of staff is taking a shot at the "donors and electeds" who pushed out President Biden -- but added that it was time to get behind Vice President Harris.
Ronald Klain posted on X moments after Biden announced he would not seek re-election and was endorsing Harris as his successor.
"Now that the donors and electeds have pushed out the only candidate who has ever beaten Trump, it’s time to end the political fantasy games and unite behind the only veteran of a national campaign — our outstanding @vp, @KamalaHarris!! Let’s get real and win in November!" he said.
President Biden took to X to ask for donations for Vice President Kamala Harris, who he endorsed to replace him at the top of the ticket after dropping out of the 2024 race Sunday.
"My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made,"Biden said on X. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."
The president then sent a reply to the Tweet asking for donations.
"And if you’re with us, donate to her campaign here," Biden said.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom took to X to share his thoughts on President Biden after the president announced he was dropping out of the 2024 race.
"President Biden has been an extraordinary, history-making president — a leader who has fought hard for working people and delivered astonishing results for all Americans," the California Democrat said. "He will go down in history as one of the most impactful and selfless presidents."
Biden announced he was leaving the race on X Sunday, saying that he made the decision "in the best interest of my party and the country."

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., reacted to the news that President Biden is stepping down by saying he should resign as president as well and not serve out the rest of his term.
Biden announced Sunday that he will serve the rest of his term as president, but we will not seek re-election.
"Finally, Joe Biden has realized what the rest of the American people and even his own party already knew—he is not only the wrong leader for America, but is wholly incapable of doing the job of President of the United States. But he didn't go far enough. If Joe is too weak to stay in the race for the presidency, he should resign as our Commander-in-Chief immediately,” Blackburn said in a statement.
“Don’t be fooled: the Democrat Party is no better off today than they were yesterday. It doesn't matter who is the new face of the ticket in November; it will still be the same old Biden-Harris policies that have made the lives of hardworking Americans more difficult," she said.
"We cannot afford another four years of economic instability, chaos abroad, and crisis after crisis in our communities. That is why we must elect President Donald J. Trump and JD Vance to reverse these terrible policies and restore American prosperity.”

Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday, a revelation that came on the heels of several TV interviews and campaign appearances in which the president insisted he was remaining in the race. But the interviews failed to reassure supporters and provided critics – including those on the left – with further evidence that Biden was no longer up to the job.
President Biden has defiantly remained in the presidential race despite mounting calls from allies to drop out, and speculation that he would bow out as early as this weekend.
The Biden campaign has hit back against anonymous sources and speculation that Biden would end his campaign in the coming days, suggesting a pressure campaign was building to force Biden's hand.
"There are a lot of anonymous sources out there this week telling y’all what is and isn’t happening on Team Biden-Harris. I’m here – on the record (!) – to give you an overview of what actually happened, what’s to come, and a few thoughts on the very bad things coming out of the Republican National Convention," Biden campaign spokesman Kevin Muonoz said in a press release late last week.
The comment was released shortly following Newsmax's Mark Halperin reporting that unnamed Democratic sources informed him that Biden will drop out of the race as soon as this weekend, that he would not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to take the mantle, and would call for an open convention during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.

President Biden's doctor said that his COVID-19 symptoms have "improved significantly."
"President Biden completed his eighth dose of PAXLOVID this morning, His symptoms improved significantly. His pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remain absolutely normal. His oxygen saturation continues to be excellent on room air," Dr. Kevin O'Connor said in a letter published Sunday.
"His lungs remain clear. In yesterday’s update, I incorrectly stated that the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) KP.2.3 variant accounted for approximately 33.3% of new cases in the United States. The correct percentage is approximately 12.8%."
Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday. He has since been self-isolating in his home Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said Sunday that President Biden has already made his decision to remain in the 2024 race and is in it to "win."
"No, he's not," Richmond said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday when asked if Biden will drop out of the race.
"And he's heard those concerns. And I want to be crystal clear. He's made a decision. And that decision is to accept the nomination and run for reelection. Win reelection. And I think that there are those out there, that need to hear it again, that he made a decision he's going to be the candidate."
Democrats have increasingly called on Biden to drop out of the race as he prepares for the November rematch against former President Donald Trump. The calls to exit the race come after Biden displayed a disastrous debate performance against Trump last month, reigniting concerns over his mental fitness and age.
Aaron Sorkin, the creator of the '90s NBC drama "West Wing," suggested on Sunday that the Democratic Party nominate a Republican, Senator Mitt Romney, to stop former President Donald Trump.
Back in 2012, Sorkin lobbied Obama to repeatedly call Romney a liar at debates. "Nominating Mr. Romney would be putting our money where our mouth is: a clear and powerful demonstration that this election isn’t about what our elections are usually about, but about stopping a deranged man from taking power," Sorkin touted in an op-ed for the New York Times, before noting other Democrats weren't polling well against Trump either.
President Biden is facing mounting calls to drop out of the race following a rocky debate performance. A recent poll also found that 65% of Democrats want Biden to drop out.
"The problem in the real world is that there isn’t a Democrat who is polling significantly better than Mr. Biden. And quitting, as heroic as it may be in this case, doesn’t really put a lump in our throats," he wrote.

Failed 2024 Democratic candidate for the White House, Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips, said he encourages President Biden to drop out of his re-election race, adding to the growing list of Democrats calling on the president to end his campaign.
"The president did call me in March, a very gracious conversation, and I did endorse him, and I still endorse him. But it is time to step aside and turn this over to a new generation. My endorsement stays until he makes that decision. I'm encouraging that," Phillips said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday morning.
Phillips is the 37th Democrat to publicly call on Biden to bow out of the race since last month.
"I ran because I saw a delusion. I saw a country that was in a very different place than our Democratic Party. Over 50% of Democrats at that time wanted a different candidate. And I was on a mission to expose the truth, provide an alternative, and do what I really saw in the numbers and through intuition was necessary. It didn't work out, of course, but I was trying to create the conversation," Phillips added in his interview.
Phillips bowed out of the presidential race in March, after months of noting that while he admired the president, Biden’s age weakened the chance of Democrats retaining control of the White House in 2024.
Phillips announced in November of last year that he would not seek re-election for his House seat, after throwing his hat in the presidential race. Phillips, who has been in the House since 2019, represents a strongly Democratic district and his all-in effort for the presidency was always a long shot.

A bevy of Democratic Party state chairs in key battleground states published a joint letter Sunday reaffirming their support of President Biden's run for re-election.
"Democrats at all levels are running on a unified message of freedom, democracy, and aneconomy that works for working people. When the choice is clear, our candidates and ourmessage beat, hands down, Trump, Vance, and the MAGA threat of abortion bans, dictatorship,and giveaways to billionaires. But right now, many voters aren’t hearing that from our party," the letter, which was circulated by the Biden campaign, stated.
The letter was signed by: Ben Wikler of Wisconsin, Lavora Barnes of Michigan, Sharif Street of Pennsylvania, Anderson Clayton of North Carolina, Nikema Williams of Georgia, Yolanda Bejarano of Arizona, and Daniele Monroe-Moreno of Nevada.
"We understand the anxiety. But the best antidote to political anxiety is taking action. You can’twring your hands when you’re rolling up your sleeves. When we all lend our voices tocontrasting the Democratic vision—from Biden-Harris straight down the ticket—with the MAGAnightmare, we win," the state chairs continued.
The letter comes as calls from Democrats mount that Biden drop out of the 2024 presidential race and pass the torch to another Democrat to take on former President Donald Trump in November. The calls to drop out were born out of anxiety following Biden's disastrous presidential debate last month, when his mental fitness and age came under further scrutiny.

Former President Barack Obama potentially directly calling on President Biden to drop out of the 2024 race could drive him to remain in the election rematch against Trump, according to a new report.
Current and former Biden aides told Axios that the president still holds a grudge against Obama and Democrats for advising he not run for president in 2016, just months after his son Beau Biden died from brain cancer. The regret over not running that year has reportedly emboldened Biden to remain in the race despite calls from traditional allies to drop out.
The report noted that if Obama directly called on Biden to drop out of his 2024 run, it could push the president to become more determined to remain the nominee.
"Obama already used that chit in 2016 when his team lobbied him against running. You don't get to do that more than once," one former Biden aide told the outlet.
Former President Donald Trump's running mate in the 2024 election, JD Vance, doubled down that President Biden should resign from the White House is he bows out of the presidential race.
"If Joe Biden ends his reelection campaign, how can he justify remaining President? Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief," Vance posted on X Sunday morning.

The Ohio Republican senator was announced as Trump's vice presidential pick last week, and had previously called on Biden to resign as president if he bows out of the race.
"Everyone calling on Joe Biden to *stop running* without also calling on him to resign the presidency is engaged in an absurd level of cynicism. If you can't run, you can't serve," he wrote on Saturday.
Calls have mounted since June 27 for Biden to end his re-election run, following his disastrous debate performance that put his mental fitness and age under further scrutiny as the Democratic Party squares up for a rematch against Trump.
President Biden took to X Sunday and vowed to keep speaking out for Democracy as calls for him to step down have intensified.
"I’ll continue to speak out strongly for our democracy, stand up for our Constitution and the rule of law, and call for action at the ballot box, not violence on our streets," Biden said. "That’s how democracy should work."
Biden has continued to face calls from fellow Democrats to drop out of the race, with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-WVa., arguing during an appearance on ABC News Sunday that it is time for Biden to “pass the torch to a new generation" of Democrats.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi joined a North Carolina Unity Dinner to galvanize Democrats ahead of the election, while bypassing mentioning President Biden and calls for him to drop out of the race.
"No wasted time, no underutilized resources, and no regrets the day after the election that we could have done more, are you ready for a great Democratic victory? I thought so!" she said at the dinner.
Pelosi was in North Carolina to rally support for the Democrats' hopeful successor for Gov. Roy Cooper, Josh Stein.
The appearance comes as calls mount for Biden to drop out of the presidential race over mental fitness concerns, and worries the president could not defeat Trump in the November election.

The Republican National Committee raised more than $66 million in June, far more than the Democratic National Committee's $39 million in funds raised last month.
All in, the RNC reported a war chest of $102 million at the end of June, compared to the DNC's $78 million, the Washington Post reported.
At the end of June, President Biden and former President Donald Trump held a debate that opened the floodgates to calls for Biden to drop out of the race due to his disastrous performance. Democrats said the Biden campaign pulled in millions following the debate despite the president's performance and concerns he could defeat Trump in November.
Republicans, however, are anticipated to continue outraising Democrats in July, touting a three-month fundraising winning streak, pulling in a staggering $331 million during the April through June.
Biden has remained adamant he is remaining in the race despite a wave of Democrat allies increasingly calling on him to drop out of the race and speculation that Biden is considering his allies' demands ahead of the Democratic National Convention.
President Biden is expressing new interest in whether Vice President Kamala Harris could defeat former President Trump in the 2024 election, according to a report from the New York Times.
While Biden and his staff have publicly insisted that he is staying in the race, the 81-year-old is reportedly now asking whether Harris could win. Several polls show Harris matching or even exceeding Biden's performance against Trump as waves of Democrats call on Biden to withdraw.
“To some degree, the vice president is auditioning now for the job and they should help her lean in and I think her leaning in could be beneficial to bolstering Biden” whether he steps aside or not, former Harris aid Ashley Etienne told the Times.
Harris stands as the most obvious candidate to replace Biden thanks in large part to her presumed access to the Biden-Harris war chest should the president withdraw. Any other candidate would face an uncertain path to accessing the tens of millions of dollars donated throughout the race.
Family-owned auto parts manufacturer Husco is preparing for the worst if President Biden is re-elected in 2024.
Company President and CEO Austin Ramirez recently testified before Congress ahead of their plan to allow Trump-era tax cuts to expire, touting the importance of the nearly terminated policy.
"Only by preserving the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act can Congress ensure that uniquely American stories like Husco remain possible," Ramirez said during congressional testimony this past April.
The matter is likely to be a source of contention during the general election, particularly with Trump pledging to make the tax cuts permanent if he is elected in November.
The expiration of the tax law on December 31, 2025 will mean many Americans will be forced to pay more in taxes unless certain provisions are extended or made permanent. While President Biden has not yet released a blueprint for how to address the upcoming tax cliff, he called for a number of tax hikes in his fiscal 2025 budget proposal.
"Taxes are a huge part. We've got to have competitive taxes. In the U.S., we've got the most regressive tax regime in the world relative to R&D," Ramirez told Fox News' Pete Hegseth.
The Husco CEO gave Hegseth a behind-the-scenes look into the company's manufacturing headquarters in Waukesha, Wisconsin, as the Republican National Convention got underway in nearby Milwaukee.
The U.S.'s federal research and development (R&D) tax credit grants companies a reduction in tax liability for select domestic expenses.
"R&D and innovation is how we grow this economy, how we grow Husco. Today in the U.S., we get to expense 20% of our R&D expenses in China. They get to expense 200% of their R&D expenses. That creates a huge barrier to innovation and growth in a thriving American economy."
Ramirez continued, arguing that renewing the tax cut policy would "absolutely" be beneficial to his business.

California Senate candidate Steve Garvey called the about-face by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on President Biden's re-election bid an act of "selfish desperation" after Schiff realized his Senate campaign had been outraised by more than $1 million.
"Adam Schiff’s recent act of selfish desperation to abandon his presidential nominee has caused a clear reaction from his supporters on his social media," Garvey, the Republican candidate vying to fill the late Dianne Feinstein's seat, told Fox News Digital. "It’s now clear to his supporters what has been clear to millions of Americans for years, that Adam Schiff only cares about Adam Schiff, and Californians deserve a senator that puts them above politics."
Schiff called on Biden to drop out of the 2024 race earlier this week, saying in a statement to Fox News Digital that a "second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November."
Garvey remarked in a social media post this week that it was "not surprising" Schiff called on Biden to step aside "less than 24 hours after it was reported that our campaign out-raised Adam Schiff's campaign by $1.2 million."
Garvey said this is the first time in 14 years a Republican statewide candidate in California has surpassed the fundraising of a Democratic candidate.
"It’s understandable that they felt they had to take dramatic action when this news came out," he added. "When Adam Schiff announced that he believes President Biden shouldn’t seek re-election, it dominated the news cycle for the day, helping in part to bury our fundraising success story."
Between April 1 and June 30, Garvey reportedly raised $5.4 million to Schiff's $4.1 million.
FIRST ON FOX: A Democrat staffer, who recently announced on social media that he has joined the Biden-Harris campaign as a deputy press secretary, works as a "drag queen" on weekends, according to his social media bio and social media posts reviewed by Fox News Digital
Eric Lipka, who most recently worked in Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s, D-Mass., office before joining the Biden campaign, said he was "thrilled to share" that he has "joined the Biden-Harris campaign as deputy press secretary for Pennsylvania!" in a X post on Wednesday.
The post, which is now private, racked up hundreds of thousands of views over the last few days with several replies congratulating him, while others mocked him for joining the Biden campaign’s "sinking ship" and pointed out his bio that reads, "on weekends: drag queen." The popular Libs of TikTok social media account amplified Lipka's draq queen gig with a follow-up post that has garnered 1.5 million views over the last few days.
Lipka, who goes by the drag queen names "Erotica," "Erica Lipka," and "Erotica the Drag Queen" on social media, has several social media accounts on X, Facebook, and Instagram, but most of them were private as of Friday and then all of them were locked down shortly after Fox News Digital reached out to the Biden campaign for comment on Saturday afternoon.
However, a Fox News Digital review found Lipka's name tagged in dozens of public Facebook posts dating back to 2021 when he was still a college student at Georgetown University. The public Facebook posts were often promotions for upcoming drag brunches, drag shows, and other events featuring drag queens, including Lipka.
Earlier this year, he performed at Hampden Sydney College, a private Virginia liberal arts school for men, for their Unity Alliance Lavender Ball, an event that featured several drag queens. Another post from April 2024 lists Lipka as one of the drag queens participating in an "Elevate your brunch" drag event the following month.
In January 2024, Lipka was listed as one of the drag queens participating in an event called "Saint Saturday" in Richmond, Virginia.
Dozens of other posts over the last few years show him participating in drag shows in Reheboth Beach, multiple Maryland venues, Connecticut, and various LGBTQ-friendly venues across Washington, D.C. In an April 2023 Facebook post, Lipka is listed on a promotion flyer for an event called "Looney's Pub presents Brunch Tunes" in College Park, Maryland.
"The girls that drag together, [eggplant emoji] bottoms down together," drag queen Nubia Love-Jackson said in a 2022 Facebook post accompanied by a photo of Jackson and Lipka. Lipka replied, "babyyyyy u already know."

A truck with a billboard that urged those closest to President Biden to help him step down from the presidential race was seen driving near his Reboboth Beach house in Delaware on Saturday.
The billboard’s message, written like an email on the back of the truck, said it was an “urgent memo.”
“To: Biden family, friends, allies, staff,” it continued with the “Subject: It’s your responsibility.”
“In this moment, as he considers his future, President Biden should hear the truth from the people who have always had his back,” it said.
The side of the truck had the same message along with a black and white photo of the president.
Biden is recuperating from the coronavirus at the beach house.
