Usha Vance, second lady of the United States, stepped into her official role on Jan. 20, 2025, following the swearing in ceremony of her husband, Vice President JD Vance. She is the first Indian American to serve in the position.
Usha is a graduate of Yale University Law School, where she met her husband. They married in 2014.
The couple have three children – Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel. The Vance children went viral on social media during their attendance at their father’s Inauguration Day swearing-in ceremony, as well as their appearance at the parade at Capital One Arena the same day.
Usha is an accomplished litigator, having clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. She also was a litigator for the Munger, Tolles and Olson law firm, but left the job after Vance was tapped as Trump’s running mate.
