Shakira is a multi-time Grammy winning artist who started releasing Latin music before beginning to release music also focused on the American market, while still sticking to her Colombian roots. This made her a massive success in both Spanish and English-speaking markets. Some of her most popular songs to date are “Waka Waka,” “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever.” Shakira was dating her long-term boyfriend, Gerard Piqué but the two announced their split in June 2022.
Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Columbia. After getting her first record deal when she was just 13 years old, she released her first two albums, “Magia” in 1991 and “Peligro” in 1993. After that, she starred in the Latin soap opera “El Oasis” before she started to focus on music once again.
In 1995, she released her album “Pies Descalzos” and then released “¿Dónde Están los Ladrones?” in 1988 before she started to focus more on the American market.
In 2000, she won her first Grammy award for best Latin Pop album for “MTV Unplugged.” In 2001, she released another album, “Laundry Service,” which was her first English language album.
In 2005, Shakira put out “Fijación Oral, Vol. 1” and also put out “Oral Fixation, Vol, 2” that same year. This album contained the popular song “Hips Don’t Lie.” In 2009, she put out “She Wolf.” This was also around the time that the hit song “Waka Waka” was released. In 2014, Shakira released a self-titled album followed by “El Dorado” in 2017.
In addition to releasing her own music, Shakira also helped aspiring artists as a coach on “The Voice” in 2013 for the show’s fourth season. She also performed at the Super Bowl Halftime show in 2020 with JLo.
Shakira started dating Piqué after they met in 2010 on the set of her “Waka Waka” music video. Piqué, who played professional Spanish football for FC Barcelona and Shakira confirmed their relationship in 2011.
In January 2013, their first child, Milan Piqué Mebarak was born. Their second child, Sasha Piqué Mebarak was born in January 2015. Both children were born in Barcelona. In 2018, Pique retired from soccer and in June 2022, the two announced that they had separated.
