Gabrielle Union is an actress, model and author who has been in movies like “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Bring It On” and “Bad Boys II.” Union has been married to former NBA player Dwyane Wade since 2014. She is the stepmom of his three children and the two also share a daughter, Kaavia James who was born in 2018.
Union was born on October 29, 1972 in Omaha, Nebraska before she moved to Pleasanton, California with her family. In school, Union was an athlete, playing soccer, basketball and track. After graduating from Foothill High School, she went to the University of Nebraska, where she played on the soccer team. She later transferred to Cuesta College before ending up at UCLA where she eventually graduated with a degree in sociology.
After joining a modeling agency, she landed her first acting job on the television show, “Saved by the Bell” in 1995 where she was in two episodes. This led to appearances in other television shows like “Goode Behavior,” “Smart Guy,” “Dave’s World” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
In 1999, Union was in her first movie, the rom com, "She’s All That." That same year, she was in another popular rom com, “10 Things I Hate About You” which starred Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.
Since acting in “She’s All That” and “10 Things I Hate About You” in 1999, she has been in many other movies including “The Brothers,” “The Honeymooners,” “Running with Scissors,” “The Perfect Holiday,” “Cadillac Records,” “Think Like a Man,” “Good Deeds,” “Almost Christmas,” “Sleepless” and “The Inspection.”
In addition to her movie roles, she has also continued to act in television with shows like “Night Stalker,” “Flashforward,” “Being Mary Jane,” “L.A.’s Finest” and “Truth Be Told.” Union has also written books for both children and adults including “Shady Baby Feels: A First Book of Emotions,” “Welcome to the Party,” “Shady Baby,” “You Got Anything Stronger?” and “We’re Going to Need More Wine: Stories that Are Funny, Complicated, and True.”
Union has been married to Wade since 2014. Prior to her marriage to Wade, she was married to Chris Howard until their divorce in April 2006.
