Chris Hemsworth emerged in Hollywood after playing Thor for the first time in the 2011 “Thor” movie. It was a role that he would continue to play in the following years and the one he would become widely associated with throughout his career.
Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983 in Melbourne, Australia, to parents Leonie and Craig Hemsworth. He has two brothers, Liam and Luke Hemsworth who are also actors. In 2004, Hemsworth auditioned to play Robbie Hunter in the Australian soap opera “Home and Away” but ultimately got cast as Kim Hyde. He played the character from 2004 to 2007. While in Australia, he also competed on “Dancing with the Stars.”
“Star Trek” was the first Hollywood movie Hemsworth acted in. A few years later, in 2011, he scored his big break with “Thor,” although he originally was passed on for the role. Hemsworth has said that his brother Liam initially made it further in the audition process. Ultimately, Chris was brought back to read for the role and was offered the part he would go on to play for more than 10 years.
Hemsworth played Thor in his own feature films, “Thor: The Dark World,” “Thor: Ragnarok” and the 2022 movie "Thor: Love and Thunder." He also played Thor in all the Avengers movies alongside his fellow superhero actors Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner. He played Thor in "The Avengers," “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and the Avengers epic finale “Avengers: Endgame.”
Some other movies starring Hemsworth are “Red Dawn,” “Snow White and the Huntsman,” “Rush,” “Blackhat,” “Vacation,” “In the Heart of the Sea,” “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” “Ghostbusters,” “Men in Black: International,” “Extraction” and “Spiderhead.”
Hemsworth met his now wife Elsa Pataky through talent agent William Ward in early 2010 and went public in September of that year. The two tied the knot just a few months later, in December. They now have three children together, a daughter named India Rose and twin boys Tristan and Sasha.
