Adrian Peterson is a registered free-agent athlete who plays in the National Football League. Since starting his career over a decade ago, Peterson is considered one of the greatest running backs in the league's history, setting rushing yard records and earning numerous football accolades. Peterson has played for six different professional franchises in the NFL, including the Minnesota Vikings, the Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and the Seattle Seahawks. He started playing in the NFL after the Vikings drafted him as the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
During his first season, Peterson set a league record for most rushing yards in a single game at 296 yards. Moreover, he earned the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2007 and the NFL's Most Valuable Player Award in 2012 after his Pro Bowl performance.
He was one of only five players to gain more than 3,000 yards during his first two seasons in the NFL. Before joining the NFL, Peterson made a name for himself in college football by playing for the University of Oklahoma. He was named an All-American player and was a runner-up in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a freshman. His current records show that he has 14,918 rushing yards. If Peterson gains over 15,000 yards, he would be one of only a few other players that have reached that threshold in an NFL career.
Previously, Peterson sustained injuries to his ACL and MCL that caused him to take the season off in order to recover. In addition, Peterson was suspended for the rest of the 2014 season while playing with the Vikings after a grand jury in Texas indicted him for reckless injury to a child. Peterson briefly played for the Seahawks before being released from his contract in January 2022.
