“The Bachelor” is a dating reality television show that first aired in 2002. The show follows a single man who spends several weeks dating a group of eligible women until there is just one left at the end. The show’s success has led to a variety of spin-off shows like "The Bachelorette," “Bachelor Pad,” “Bachelor in Paradise,” “The Bachelor Winter Games” and “The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart.”
“The Bachelor” first started in 2002 with Alex Michel in the leading role. Since then, many men have taken the title of Bachelor, some of which have been Ben Flajnik, Juan Pablo Galavis, Nick Viall, Brad Womack, Peter Weber, Arie Luyendyk Jr., Chris Soules, Ben Higgins and Colton Underwood.
The show was previously hosted by Chris Harrison and is now hosted by former bachelor Jesse Palmer. The reality show created by Mike Fleiss is about a single man who dates a pool of over 20 women.
During the show, the bachelor leads a rose ceremony where he gives a rose to each women that he wants to continue to pursue a relationship with. Anyone who doesn’t receive a rose is eliminated. Through the show, there are group dates, where the bachelor goes on a date with a group of women and one on one dates, where the bachelor chooses one girl to take on a date.
At the end of the season, the bachelor visits the final four women’s hometowns to meet their families. When it gets down to three women, there are fantasy suite dates where the bachelor and each women have a chance to spend the night together with no cameras. Then, when there are two women left, they each meet the bachelor’s family.
At the conclusion of the show, the bachelor picks the women he wants to be with. Sometimes, the show ends with a proposal, sometimes it ends in the two being in a relationship but not a proposal and sometimes the bachelor ends up alone.
Out of the show’s 26 seasons, there has only been one bachelor who is still with the woman he proposed to on the finale of the show. In 2013, Sean Lowe proposed to Catherine Giudici and they are still together today.
