University at Buffalo freshman, 18, dead after suspected frat hazing

The University at Buffalo in upstate New York has indefinitely suspended all fraternity and sorority activities after a freshman died in a suspected hazing incident, school officials said.
Sebastian Serafin-Bazan, 18, was hospitalized on Friday at an off-campus house connected to the Sigma Pi fraternity. The student had "a serious medical condition as the result of a possible hazing incident," President Satish K. Tripathi said in a news release.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Buffalo Police Department wrote online that authorities are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Further information about what took place at the off-campus house was not immediately clear. Sigma Pi on Wednesday tweeted that the fraternity "is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Sebastian Serafin-Bazan."
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to Sebastian’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time," the organization added. They said they're cooperating with university and police officials as they investigate.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Sigma Pi has more than 120 chapters in the U.S. and Canada, with around 20 members at the Buffalo school, according to the university.

Tripathi said he was "deeply saddened" following Serafin-Bazan's death on Wednesday.
