SAINTS' DEREK CARR REVEALS RAIDERS ONLY ALLOWED HIM TO TALK WITH ONE TEAM FOR POTENTIAL TRADE BEFORE RELEASE

Garoppolo's departure follows a turbulent year for the former Patriots backup.

After failing to find a trade partner, the Niners and Garoppolo agreed to a one-year contract in the offseason. But just two weeks into the season, Garoppolo was called on after starter Trey Lance went down with an ankle injury.

He would go on to win six games as San Francisco’s starter but during the 49ers' 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 13, he suffered his own season-ending injury, handing the baton to rookie Brock Purdy.

Garoppolo was traded to the 49ers after four seasons in New England. He led the team to three NFC Championships and one Super Bowl.

He joins the Raiders as the likely starter after Las Vegas parted ways with veteran quarterback Derek Carr after nine seasons
