If there's a new mom in your life whom you really want to surprise this Mother's Day, a baby monitor that tracks breathing might just do the trick. It's in a mother's nature to worry about her babies always, but especially newborns.

2. A DIY photo frame that doubles as a vase

While homes may be overloaded with family photos on the walls and console tables, one more addition likely won't hurt the space. 

HOW TO DIGITIZE OLD PHOTOS AND SLIDES

This DIY photo vase idea is thoughtful, easy and will double as a photo display and a flower vase.

You'll need four square frames that are all the same size, photos, a hot glue gun, a small vase and of course, flowers.

To put this photo vase together, you'll want to add the pictures to your frames first. Once you've glued the frames together it will be more difficult, but not impossible, to add photos later. 

One by one, take the framed photos and hot glue them to each other like you're putting together a box. You'll want the photos to end in a perfect square that stands on its own.

Then, add a small vase to the center of it and add flowers. The box of frames will not have a bottom unless you add one, so you'll want to let mom know this before she tries to pick it up to check it out. This display is perfect for a kitchen island where all four of the photos can be seen.

3. A piece of fine China

It's likely that your mom hasn't received a gift of fine China since her bridal shower or wedding. Fine China doubles as an elegant piece of serve ware and high-end table decor for a special event.

Pick out a cute beach bag that fits your mom's style. 

Stuff the bag with beach items that are adorable and useful like towels, sunscreen or tanning oils, a good beach read, a portable speaker, a floppy hat and beach attire she'll enjoy.

6. An indoor garden

Did you know you could plant herbs and vegetables inside your house? This is a great gift for moms who love to indulge in fresh veggies and herbs throughout the year. 

It is also a good idea for city residents that might not have enough room for an outdoor garden.
