A Chinese mother gave birth to conjoined twins who are being kept for observation before undergoing separation surgery. The boys were born weighing 9 pounds each and are joined at the liver, Central European News (CEN) reported.
The mother, who was only identified as Lu, delivered the twins via Caesarean section and was initially told her sons may be joined at the shoulders and midriff, CEN reported. A nurse at Jiangxi Children’s Hospital said the twins would not be immediately separated.
“The boys are tightly connected. If we separate them now, we risk exposing their livers before enough skin is available to cover them,” Yan Pinglan told CEN.
