Jennifer Lopez reportedly “didn’t know” Alex Rodriguez would propose on their island vacation in the Bahamas last week.
The couple had, however, talked about marriage prior to their March 9 engagement, a source told Us Weekly on Wednesday.
“They’ve talked about marriage and have always planned to spend the rest of their lives together, but they were so happy with exactly how things were, they weren’t sure if they wanted to go down that road. It’s almost like they didn’t want to jinx it,” the source told the magazine.

Over the last two years, “Marriage is something that became important to both of them and their kids,” the source told Us Weekly.
Lopez shared new photos of the proposal to her Instagram Tuesday. The first photo shows Rodriguez down on one knee at the beach gazing up at his soon to be fiancé, whose back is to camera.

Lopez then is shown grasping her mouth in shock as Rodriguez slides her new bling onto her finger in the second photo. Lopez bends down to smooch her future hubby in the third picture before the happy couple share a romantic kiss in the final image in the post.
Lopez has been married four times before, most recently to singer Marc Anthony, whom he divorced in 2014 and with whom she shares 11-year-old twins Maximilian "Max" David and Emme Maribel. Rodriguez split from his wife of six years, Cynthia Scurtis, in 2008 and co-parents their two daughters Natasha Alexander, 14, and Ella Alexander, 10.
The pair shared the news of their engagement on social media Saturday, both posting the same close-up photo of “El Anillo” finally placed on Lopez’s finger. Rodriguez captioned “she said yes” while Lopez added eight emoji hearts underneath her post.

Rodriguez and Lopez debuted their relationship red-carpet style a little over two years ago at the 2017 Met Gala. The two have been sparking engagement rumors as early as October 2018, after Jenny from the Block sported a huge diamond ring during the World Series.
