Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez appear to be heading toward splitsville.
The Academy Award-winning actress filed for divorce from her French/Spanish husband after two years of marriage. They confirmed the split in a joint statement released on Tuesday.
"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," they told TMZ. "We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children's privacy, as we go through this difficult period."
According to TMZ, the Oscar-winning actress cited irreconcilable differences in divorce documents. A source told the gossip website that their marriage went into “a tailspin a week ago” with both wanting out.
“They’re just very, very different people. He’s a very macho guy, and things just didn’t jive,” a source told TMZ.
Berry and Martinez, both 49, first met on the set of “Dark Tide” in 2010. They secretly got engaged in 2011 and tied the knot in July 2013 at the Chateu des Conde in Vallery, France. They have one child together, 2-year-old Maceo. Berry also has daughter Nahla, from a previous relationship with Gabriel Aubry.
News of their divorce comes just days after the couple was sued by a Los Angeles airport employee for $5 million. The employee accused Martinez of attacking him with a car seat during an unprovoked attack earlier this year.
This will be Berry’s third divorce. She was previously married to basketball player David Justice and to R&B singer Eric Benet.
