Enrique Iglesias not only sliced up some fingers in his hand when he grabbed a drone at a recent concert, he also fractured a bone in his hand.
In a statement on the singer’s website, his team said that Iglesias was recovering following surgery on Monday that “lasted longer than expected” because of the break that “needed to be corrected in addition to the reconstructive surgery.”
The statement, posted Tuesday said, "the damage ended up being a bit worse than initially assessed," but a full recovery is nevertheless expected.
The 40-year-old Spanish singer sliced his fingers during a concert in Tijuana, Mexico, on Saturday. A video from the event showed his hands dripping blood and his white T-shirt stained with blood after the incident with the drone, which was capturing images of the audience.
The flying device somehow punctured his hand while he was trying to tilt it in his direction.
Iglesias was “semi-treated” at the side of the stage to staunch the bleeding. He was advised to end the show, but he continued performing another 30 minutes at the Plaza de Toros de Playas because he did not want to let the 12,000 fans down.
The singer was rushed to Los Angeles after the concert to see a specialist, who determined he needed reconstructive surgery.
Iglesias will be recovering for the next several weeks before resuming his “Sex and Love" tour on July 3 in Mexico City.
