HOMESTEAD, Pa. – A group of police officers picked up the check on Saturday for a couple who didn't want to sit near them at a Pennsylvania restaurant.
A server at the Eat'n Park restaurant in the borough of Homestead told Pittsburgh's WTAE-TV that the couple wanted another table after being brought to one near the officers.
Officer Chuck Thomas said he told the man and woman that it was okay to sit near his group and that "we won't hurt you." After the couple walked away, he said he and another officer decided to pay their bill.
The officers wrote on the bill, "thank you for your support."
Thomas said the gesture was part of an effort to create "a better relationship between the community and police."
