ABC has finally announced when the spin-off to its flubbed “Roseanne” revival will premiere.
The network released its fall 2018 TV series premiere schedule which contained the series “The Conners.” The show will focus on the family from Lanford, IL. minus the title character that made them famous, Roseanne. “The Conners,” which was originally a working title, will air its first episode on Tuesday, October 16. This was likely where Season 2 of the “Roseanne” revival would have been placed had the network not abruptly pulled the plug.
As previously reported, “Roseanne” was canceled after its title star, Roseanne Barr, tweeted a racist statement at former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett. After a strong ratings debut, the series was almost immediately greenlit for Season 2 before ABC made the call to pull the plug.
Cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman are set to reprise their roles. It’s unclear at this time how the family will continue without Barr’s character or how she’ll be written out.
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the Tuesday lineup is getting a late start in October compared to other nights which will see debuts in late September. It’s unclear if this would have been the plan all along, or if the cancellation and subsequent spin-off of “Roseanne” played a factor. “The Conners” will be joined on Tuesdays by newcomers “The Rookie” and “The Kids Are Alright” and returning series “black-ish” and “Splitting Up Together.”
